Teach First

Even in today's society, the wealth of a child's parents is the strongest determinant of their academic success at school. We know that excellent teaching in some of the UK's most challenging schools can change this.

Teach First works to address educational disadvantage by transforming exceptional graduates into effective, inspirational teachers and leaders in all fields.

Since 2002, Teach First has recruited over 1900 of the UK's highest achieving graduates into challenging schools across England. We train our participants to be effective teachers and leaders of the future through a two-year Leadership Development Programme, delivered in partnership with some of the UK's top initial teacher training providers and our network of corporate supporters. After two years, our participants graduate Teach First's Programme as Ambassadors (alumni). Some remain as leaders in their schools, others take positions of responsibility in a variety of sectors, but whatever route they take, they continue to work towards achieving our mission to ensure that every child succeeds, regardless.

As of September 2009, Teach First teachers are working in 182 schools across five regions – London, the North West, the West Midlands, East Midlands and Yorkshire. We are funded by a mixture of public and private sources including the DSCF and fifty leading employers.
