About us

National Care Leavers’ Week is made possible by a unique coalition of organisations representing the voluntary and private sectors as well as local government who are concerned about the futures of young people who have been brought up in public care. Care leaver led groups in England and Wales make an important contribution to this coalition, as well as individual young people and adult care leavers.

The aim of National Care Leavers’ Week is to ensure that the issues which affect care leavers remain at the forefront of the minds of both national legislators and local commissioners of services. We also aim to improve practice by providing opportunities for dissemination and sharing of good practice and up to date research.

In particular we hope that this year's National Care Leavers' Week attracts the attention of a wide range of Government Departments and local services whose policies and activities impact on care leavers throughout the first decade of their adult lives. Care Leavers are affected not just by specific policies designed with their needs in mind but by a whole range of adult policy areas which impact on their access to benefits, apprenticeships, housing, health services and so on.
