The Live Wire

Welcome

MEND works with public, private, not-for-profit and academic organisations to empower children and adults to become fitter, healthier and happier and to reach or maintain a healthy weight. We develop innovative ways to improve public health and encourage healthier lifestyles using our extensive research.

"With one in three children in the UK now overweight or obese, we all have an important role to play in encouraging healthy lifestyles. Experts continue to tell us that tackling obesity requires evidence-based, practical action, focussed on both prevention and treatment.

MEND offers exactly this. In line with NICE guidelines and key NHS aims and objectives and based on a 20 year world class research partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust and University College London Institute of Child Health, MEND delivers over 800 weight management programmes each year, impacting over 60,000 participants to date. What is more, we train, equip and support teams employed by local organisations to deliver our world-class programmes in a locally tailored way that works for them.

This website has been designed to support you in keeping abreast of key developments in the agenda for tackling overweight and obesity levels. Our team of experts can provide you with briefings from our extensive evidence base and our policy research to help you debate this key issue and to answer your constituent's queries as effectively as possible.

If you are an MP, I urge you to see for yourself how MEND's programmes are making a difference to families in your constituency, by visiting your nearest programme."
