Chip and PIN
The Institute of Hospitality has made a commitment to the Industry and its members to ensure that information about Chip and PIN will be disseminated in an impartial and factual manner.
The microsite www.hcima.org.uk/chipandpin has been developed to recognise the importance of changes and issues in the Hospitality sector, the Institute of Hospitalitysees this portal and the Hospitality Forum as a vital exercise in helping the industry adopt Chip & PIN and understand the challenges surrounding the technology.
The Hospitality Users Discussion Forum for Chip & PIN
The biggest challenge for Chip & PIN in the Hospitality market is marrying the ways of working in hospitality with the requirements of the card schemes, issuers and acquirers. Kilrush Consultancy Ltd and Telectronics Systems Ltd founded the “Hospitality Users Discussion Forum for Chip & PIN” in November 2003, because they felt the hospitality industry’s requirements were in danger of being overlooked due to a lack of understanding of the needs and unique requirements of the industry.
“We knew the Hospitality Retailers supported the principles of the ‘Chip & PIN’ initiative, but that there were a number of areas of concern which needed to be addressed to ensure the successful introduction and implementation of Chip & PIN into the hospitality sector”.
Connie G. Penn Kilrush Consultancy Ltd and now Chair of the Institute of Hospitality Hospitality Users Discussion Forum for Chip & PIN.
The Hospitality Users Forum is for the users, so the involvement of the associations who operate as the voice of the industry are vital to the success of any campaign. The Institute of Hospitality took an interest in the Hospitality forum from the beginning. They participated in the early forums and decided to help by running seminars for members around the country. Six seminars were run from Gatwick to Aberdeen, Manchester to Birmingham and 2 in London, and through these sessions, recognised the part the forum had to play in helping the industry adopt Chip & PIN. As the Institute of Hospitality feels that keeping members informed of changes and issues in this diverse sector is vital, we felt it was important to dedicate ourselves to ensuring that:
- information about Chip & PIN is communicated in an impartial and factual manner to the industry
- the challenges surrounding the technology are made relative to the hospitality and service industry
Consequently in January 2005, the Institute of Hospitality took on the administration of the Hospitality Users Discussion Forum for Chip & PIN. The Institute of Hospitality aims to continue to guide the forum and ensure that the requirements of the industry, are debated, organised and voiced to the card schemes and acquirers, so that the hospitality requirements are understood and truly catered for in the implementation of Chip & PIN.
