General Social Care Council
Welcome to the General Social Care Council (GSCC).
The GSCC was established in October 2001 with a responsibility to protect the public by ensuring that only those people who are properly trained, registered and of good character practice as social workers in England. The GSCC now registers over 100,000 social workers and social work students.
The GSCC is committed protecting the public through ensuring the highest standards among social workers. We maintain the Social Care Register and issue the codes of conduct. We also responsible for regulating training and education for social workers and introduced the Social Work Degree in 2003.
