Tsunami remembered
Foreign Office minister Lord Triesman has been representing the government at events in Thailand to mark the anniversary of last Boxing Day's tsunami.
The peer joined around 130 British nationals who were travelling to the region with government assistance.
Of the 149 British nationals who died in the tragedy, 129 did so in Thailand, 17 in Sri Lanka and three in the Maldives.
The bodies of six of the victims have yet to be recovered.
Lord Triesman was in Khao Lak on Monday, where a memorial foundation stone was being laid.
Meanwhile the foreign secretary apologised to British families caught up in the tsunami who did not receive adequate support.
Consular staff had done a "fantastic job", but it was not enough in some cases, Jack Straw told the BBC.
