A further four sector skills councils have been successfully relicensed following a rigorous assessment, business secretary Lord Mandelson has announced.
All four skills councils were subjected to assessment in four key areas including ‘results and impacts’.
The performance assessment, led by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills was part of the decision to relicense 25 sector skills councils, completing in December 2009.
The four successful sector skills councils are, Skills for Health, SkillsActive, Improve Llt and Skills for Justice.
Lord Mandelson said: "Employers can be confident that the four sector skills councils relicensed today after tough assessments will continue to provide them with a first class service in meeting their skill needs."
This is an important move by the government and the devolved administrations as they are allowing sector skills councils a greater level of influence over skills policy, qualification reform and the way that learning provision is delivered.
Skills for Justice, the sector skills council for justice and community safety, achieved a rating of 'good' in all four of the assessment categories.
Alan Woods, chief executive of Skills for Justice, said: "I am thrilled by this excellent result. It proves that our work with justice and community safety organisations to help them become more effective and efficient through high quality learning and development has real value and impact."
Woods was keen to stress that this relicensing would provide them with a boost to “further help our employers develop the skills of their people”.
Stephen Studd, chief executive of SkillsActive, said it was important that the leisure and learning industry was supported by "a qualified, high calibre workforce".
