The prime minister could be facing an embarrassing defeat in the Commons tomorrow in a vote on whether to set up an inquiry into the Iraq war, it has been reported.
The Telegraph says the Conservatives could support a motion tabled by the SNP and Plaid Cymru which seeks a parliamentary inquiry into the war and its aftermath.
The Tories may back the motion unless the government promises an independent investigation after an expected British withdrawal next year.
Meanwhile, a YouGov poll in the Telegraph finds that 70 per cent of the public think there is not a clear strategy in Iraq, compared with just 15 per cent who do.
Similarly, 64 per cent believe there is no clear strategy in Afghanistan, while 19 per cent think there is.
Some 79 per cent say they have 'not much' or no confidence in the government's handling of Iraq, and 76 hold the same opinion on Afghanistan.
But just 19 per cent back an immediate withdrawal from Iraq and 22 per cent from Afghanistan.
