Mrs Miliband 'not happy' about special relationship

The foreign secretary has joked that his US counterpart's enthusiasm for him is "a bit of a burden".

Speaking at a parliamentary press gallery lunch today, David Miliband was asked about recent comments by US secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

She described Miliband as "vibrant, vital, attractive and smart" and said people who meet him develop a crush on him.

The foreign secretary joked that his wife "is not happy" and it is "safer" for him to be pictured with a banana than with Mrs Clinton.

He attacked the Tories for "repeating the mistakes" of John Major's time in office and said the opposition party is "split" between reassurance and radicalism.

On Iran, Miliband said the Iranian people have become a major factor as they are putting pressure on the regime. He pointed out that in 1979 Iran was as rich as South Korea – today it is half as rich.

Millions of Iranians are worried about their country's future, and Iran's leaders are on "the wrong side of history".

She needn't worry as in a few months he will be out of that particular job forever.
