MP presents prestigious award to local company Dusky Moon

2 November 2009

"Dusky Moon's Dream Tubes – the cosy and portable solution to stop children falling out of bed - is a brilliant local invention," said North Wiltshire MP James Gray as he presented the latest award won by the Corsham-based company. "I am immensely proud that they have so far sold some 16,000 units in over 120 UK retailers, and in 16 countries across the World. What a fantastic local achievement."

Amanda Allerton and Venetia Fuller, co-founders of Dusky Moon and creators of the Dream Tubes, work from home in Neston. Mr Gray presented their latest accolade - Best Debut Product in the Concept & Innovation awards 2009 from the British Baby Products Association. Since its launch in January, Dusky Moon has scooped a total of 9 awards including Best Nursery Product in Sweden, Silver Award for Nursery Product of the Year by Practical Parenting, Silver for Safety in the Practical Pre-school Awards and Innovation Finalist at the world's largest nursery trade show, Kind & Jugend.

Mr Gray said, "It's very encouraging to see small local start up businesses like Dusky Moon blossoming. Amanda and Venetia are a fantastic testament to young entrepreneurs who are battling the recession and helping put back into the local economy during tough times.”

Amanda Allerton said, "I'm thrilled that we have managed to do so much in so little time. Dusky Moon is really starting to flourish and, in response to great demand, we have just launched our second product, the Dream Tubes for a cot bed. We couldn't have had a better start to our new business and thank everybody locally for their amazing support.”

Sue Tisdall, Dusky Moon's international trade advisor, from UK Trade & Investment said, "Taking a completely new and innovative product straight into international markets is very challenging. We have supported Dusky Moon through our Passport to Export programme with training, mentoring and practical advice, and in a very short space of time they have exhibited overseas and launched in over 16 countries, and taken into account language and cultural issues. Its an exciting time for the business and UKTI look forward to helping them with further successes as they develop their global distributor network.”
