Miliband 'staying' as foreign secretary

A spokesman for the foreign secretary has rejected reports that he is set to quit the government for an EU role.

David Miliband was on Sunday linked with the post of high representative for foreign affairs when the post falls vacant next year.

German newspaper Welt am Sonntag cited "high ranking EU diplomats" saying that he was likely to succeed Javier Solana.

It added that Miliband already had the support of countries including France.

However the Foreign Office said: "It's certainly news to us.

"David is very happy being foreign secretary and he is getting on with the job."
