Angela Watkinson said this week, "Havering Council is rightly taking steps to ensure people receive the best Advice should they lose their job or face redundancy."

Havering College has a long established working relationship with Jobcentre Plus, working closely to raise the skills levels of residents of Havering.

The college is now building on these pre-existing relationships having secured funding to develop bite size programmes to help those whose jobs have been made redundant or are under threat of redundancy and also the unemployed.

Havering College is leading on the project which covers the North and North East Jobcentre Plus districts (Havering, Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham and Waltham Forest; Haringey, Enfield and Barnet).

Clients taking up the offer will each receive initial advice and guidance, their transferable skills will be looked at and additional learning programmes discussed and signposted. They will be able to attend drop in workshops that will be held twice a week throughout the summer to gain help with CV writing, interview techniques and job search.

To get the programme off to a flying start they plan to hold a series of Open Days at the Ardleigh Green Campus. (starting 15th July 2009).

Clients will be able to go along to the college and sign-up for the 'New Start' programme. It is hoped that partner organisations such as Jobcentre Plus, who will also be referring clients, and Citizens Advice will be in attendance to ensure that clients are able to get correct and timely advice to make the whole process as painless for them as possible and facilitate their swift return to work or further learning.
