South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson has been appointed parliamentary private secretary to Hugo Swire, the minister of state for Northern Ireland.
Williamson first entered parliament in 2010. He will replace Conor Burns, who is the new PPS to the secretary of state Owen Paterson.
Paterson's PPS Stewart Jackson was sacked after he rebelled on Monday. Along with 80 other colleagues he voted in favour of a motion calling for a referendum on the UK's membership of the EU.
Adam Holloway was also sacked from his post as PPS to the minister for Europe for voting against the government.
He has been replaced by Tobias Ellwood, who lost his post as PPS to the defence secretary when Liam Fox resigned earlier this month.
Burns' new role will be seen as a promotion for the Bournemouth West MP, who was born in Belfast and maintains close links with his Roman Catholic family in Northern Ireland.
A close personal friend and political ally of Margaret Thatcher, his personal knowledge of the complex politics of the province has proved useful to ministers during his time at the Northern Ireland office.
