- 9th December 2010

Ming Campbell and Charles Kennedy were, as expected, among the Lib Dems who voted against the tuition fees policy.

The Lib Dems split three ways: 21 voted no, 28 voted yes and eight abstained or were absent.

Mark Hunter acted as a teller for the ayes during the vote, and energy secretary

Chris Huhne and his Lib Dem colleague Martin Horwood are away at climate change talks in Mexico.

The abstainers were: Lorely Burt (chair of the Lib Dem parliamentary party), Simon Hughes, Tessa Munt, Sir Robert Smith, John Thurso and Stephen Williams.

The coalition agreement allowed Lib Dem MPs to abstain on the tuition fees issue, but not vote against.

The rebels were: Annette Brooke, Ming Campbell, Mike Crockart, Tim Farron (the party's president), Andrew George, Mike Hancock, Julian Huppert, Charles Kennedy, John Leech, Stephen Lloyd, Greg Mulholland, John Pugh, Alan Reid, Dan Rogerson, Bob Russell, Adrian Sanders, Ian Swales, Mark Williams and Roger Williams, Jenny Willott and Simon Wright.

Of the Lib Dems that voted no, five of them are from the 2010 intake.

Six Tories voted no and two abstained.
