Denis Macshane MP Welcomes Top Performance Of Local School
Denis MacShane MP for Rotherham welcomes the news that Ferham Primary School is amongst the 100 top performing schools this year based on the most improved schools over the period 2002-2005.
Ferham Primary School performed excellently in the 2005 national Key Stage 2 tests particularly in both English and Mathematics with more pupils than ever reaching the target level for their age.
MacShane said,
"I am very please to see the hard work of staff and pupils recognised and that the school has been placed in the top 100 most improved schools in the country under the leadership of the excellent head teacher Mrs Di Clegg. This really is a boost for staff, pupils, parents and the wider community of Ferham. I have always been encouraged by the commitment and enthusiasm of all the staff to improve the life chances of all the pupils attending Ferham School on my many visits to the school over the years I have been the MP for Rotherham. I remember seeing the renewed enthusiasm of the staff and pupils when I attended the opening of the new school premises in July 2004.
Andrew Adonis, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Schools said,
“I am particularly please to see the level of improvement being made by schools in both English and mathematics at Key stage 2. More pupils than ever have reached the target level for their age and the efforts of your school have contributed to the great achievement. Mastery of English and mathematics is critical to success at secondary school and beyond.
