Working peers: Full list
House of Lords

Amid calls for reform of the second chamber and the way political parties are funded, Downing Street has revealed the latest tranche of working peers.

A full list of the working peers announced by Number 10.

 

Labour

Sir Bill Morris - Former general secretary of the Transport and General Workers Union. Seen as an ally of chancellor Gordon Brown, he has also criticised the government, notably for some of its asylum and immigration reforms.

Maggie Jones - Provided one of the major shocks of last year's general election campaign when she lost the Blaenau Gwent constituency to independent candidate Peter Law.

Margaret Ford - Chairman of English Partnerships and a Labour adviser.

Denise Kingsmill - A lawyer who chaired the government's 'working for people' taskforce and produced a report on women's pay.

Joyce Quin - A former minister who stepped down as MP for Gateshead at last year's general election.

Keith Bradley - Was a Home Office minister for a spell, but was defeated by the Liberal Democrats at the last general election.

Conservative

David James - A top business troubleshooter who helped Labour sort out the millennium dome fiasco, but also helped the Conservatives draw up a list of ways in which Whitehall could be made more efficient.

Jonathan Marland - Conservative treasurer who has donated £154,000 to the party over the last two years.

Sandip Verma - A British Asian businesswoman who fought the Wolverhampton seat once held by Enoch Powell at the 2005 general election.

Charles Leach - Has backed campaigns against the euro and for European Union reform.

Sir Sandy Bruce-Lockhart - Leader of Kent County Council and chairman of the Local Government Association.

Mohamed Iltaf Sheikh - Chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum.

John Taylor - Director of a family flower business who has given financial backing to the party in the past.


Liberal Democrats

John Burnett - MP for Torridge and West Devon from 1997 until he stepped down at the last general election.

Brian Cotter - MP for Weston-super-Mare from 1997 until 2005.

John Lee - A former Conservative minister who defected to the Liberal Democrats in 2001.

Robin Teverson - An MEP for Cornwall and West Plymouth from 1994 to 1999.

Celia Thomas - Previously worked in the party's whips office in the House of Lords.

Democratic Unionist Party

Eileen Paisley - Wife of party leader Rev Ian Paisley and a former member of Belfast City Council.

Maurice Morrow - Party chairman who has also been a Stormont assembly member since 1998.

Wallace Browne - A DUP councillor and lord mayor of Belfast since last May.

Ulster Unionist Party

David Trimble - Former party leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner who lost his seat at the last general election.

Crossbenchers

Colin Boyd - Scotland's lord advocate.
