MP Attacks “Extraordinarily Silly” Conservative Leaflet on Playing Field Sell Off
After the Twickenham Conservative circulated a leaflet saying that the Liberal Democrats planned to sell off school playing fields, Vincent Cable MP said: “this childish leaflet illustrates the folly of their choosing an inexperienced candidate from outside the constituency who has no knowledge of the history of the borough. He obviously has no recollection that two years ago the Conservative Council was trying to sell off Collis School playing fields, Heathfield Recreation Ground and Craneford Way fields to builders and that I and my Lib Dem colleagues worked with residents to stop their plans. My party has absolutely no plans to sell school playing fields, locally or nationally.
“If Mr Maynard wants to present his party in a positive light after their recent embarrassing splits locally and nationally he will have to raise his standards above these schoolboy pranks.”
