The Rutherglen and Hamilton West constituency was first used in the 2005 General Election. It is made up of two former constituencies – Rutherglen and Hamilton South.

The new, larger constituency covers a significant area – from Blantyre and Hamilton right through to Cambuslang and Rutherglen, with all the villages and areas in between included too.
