Sylvia welcomes Women’s Land Army Badge
Sylvia Heal MP has welcomed the Government’s decision to award a badge of recognition to female war veterans who worked to provide food and timber for the nation during the Second World War.
The specially designed badge will recognise the tremendous efforts of the Women’s Land Army and Women’s Timber Corps and acknowledge the debt that the country owes to them. Felling trees, ploughing fields, harvesting crops and looking after animals are just some of the tasks that these women carried out to support our country during the Second World War. They worked tirelessly from dawn until dusk, without the benefits of the modern technologies we have today. Veterans have been campaigning for many years for recognition and this badge is therefore long over due.
Sylvia Heal MP said: “I believe it is absolutely right that we should honour members of the Women’s Land Army with a special badge to recognise the determination, courage and spirit that they showed in extra-ordinary circumstances”.
