Sylvia Heal welcomes £140m investment in cycling
4 February 2008
Today Sylvia Heal MP called on Dudley and Sandwell Local Authorities to bid for a slice of the record £140million funding the Government is investing in cycling.
Authorities across the West Midlands can now apply to become new Cycle Demonstration Towns and receive money to encourage people onto their bikes and offer local children the chance to be trained to cycle safely.
The Government have announced £140m funding and will be working with Cycle England so that more local children are trained and equipped to cycle safely and responsibly, with more towns providing facilities and support to encourage people onto their bikes.
Sylvia Heal MP said: "I am pleased that the Government is working with local authorities, schools and parents to make a real difference to the way people travel, encourage healthier lifestyles and develop more sustainable communities. Cycling provides an excellent means of exercise and also helps tackle road congestion and pollution, that’s why I hope more people in Halesowen and Rowley Regis will cycle more."
