Sylvia Heal welcomes introduction of free bus travel for pensioners
Sylvia Heal has welcomed the introduction of free national bus travel set to be available from April 1st.The Government is providing £212 million to allow those aged 60 and over to travel free on local buses outside their own area in other parts of the country during off-peak hours. New research has reported that more than 90 per cent of those entitled to the free England-wide bus pass are looking forward to its introduction.
Sylvia Heal MP said: “I am really pleased that so many people are looking forward to the new pass, it will benefit a considerable number of people in Halesowen and Rowley Regis having a really positive impact on their lives. The new bus pass will offer greater freedom and independence while saving pensioners money when staying with friends and relatives outside their own area”.
A new advertising campaign is to be launched featuring a “destination anywhere” bus stop design to help make people aware how and where they can use their new bus pass.
If any existing pass holder has not yet received an application form, they should contact Centro on 0121 775 0001, alternatively they can provide their details online at www.networkwestmidlands.co.uk/nationalpass.
