Sylvia backs West Midlands skills plan
Sylvia Heal, MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis, has welcomed a new West Midlands three year skills plan.
It will involve the launch of the Skills Action Plan for the West Midlands, the first of three major initiatives led by Liam Byrne Minister for the West Midlands that will cover skills, science and transport.
The plan published by the LSC and Advantage West Midlands sets out key targets to increase the number of businesses across the region offering apprenticeships by 50%, alongside new measures to tackle low literacy and numeracy skills amongst almost half a million West Midlands’ adults.
Sylvia Heal MP said: “I am pleased to welcome the launch of this ambitious new plan to improve the skills base in the West Midlands it will be meeting a need that employers clearly have. Employers have made me aware of how important increasing skills is and that is why I think this plan will have a really positive impact on employees as well as employers helping to change many peoples lives.”
