Sylvia welcomes deep clean of every hospital
Sylvia Heal, MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis, has welcomed Government plans for all NHS hospitals in England to carry out a deep clean.
The deep clean programme was announced by the Prime Minister in October. Deep cleaning is one element of a wider range of measures introduced by the Government, to take to tackle healthcare associated infections and ensure patient safety. In the West Midlands £9.9m will be spent on carrying out a deep clean of every Hospital in the area by March 2008.
In local Rowley and Sandwell Hospitals four to five days will be spent deep cleaning each ward, with a daily clean of equipment and a special discharge cleaning team.
Sylvia Heal MP said: “Patients and staff rightly expect excellent standards of cleanliness in the NHS and that is why the government has placed a deep clean of every hospital central to their strategy to improve cleanliness and ensure patients have confidence that their hospitals are safe. I believe the deep clean programme will help to reassure patients and build public confidence in the NHS.
“It is important that visitors and staff make use of the alcohol hand wash that is available on all wards, helping to play their part in keeping out hospitals clean”.
