Minister welcomes local stamp design

Sylvia Heal, local MP, visited Rowley Regis war veteran, Mr Hembury this week to collect his design idea for a commemorative stamp in honour of our service personnel and veterans.
Mr Hembury contacted Sylvia following the Veteran’s Day Presentation evening organised by Sylvia and Derek Twigg, Minister for Veterans, he suggested commemorative stamps would be another excellent way of honouring our war heroes. Following the hugely popular veterans badge campaign, Sylvia has taken this novel idea to the Ministry of Defence. The Minster of State for Defence Equipment and Support has commented that he is happy to discuss Mr Hembury’s idea and agrees postage stamps are an ideal platform for honouring and raising awareness of our Service personnel.
Mr Hembury is particularly keen to commemorate the last three surviving British Veterans of the First World War living in the UK. Similar stamps in Australia inspired the Rowley Regis resident to contact Sylvia about his idea.
Sylvia said: “I’m thrilled the Minster has taken Mr Hembury’s valid suggestion on board and welcomed his ideas. It was an honour to enable so many local veterans to receive a Veteran’s Badge recognising the heroic acts and sacrifices of our service personnel, I agree, commemorative stamps would be another excellent way to achieve this.”
