Local MP welcomes £11.5 million boost for financial literacy in schools
MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis has welcomed £11.5 million of extra funding to help teach pupils basic financial concepts and help them manage their personal finances.
The new Secondary curriculum includes a section on Economic wellbeing that will allow pupils to learn about the role of taxation, personal budgeting and savings, as well as covering pensions, interest rates, trade and investment.
The extra money will be used in both Primary and Secondary schools to help teach pupils financial skills as well as providing resources and teacher training.
Sylvia Heal MP said: “I am pleased that schools are set to get a funding boost to help them introduce this important new section of the curriculum. It is crucial that young people have financial skills, learning the value of money and how to interact with financial services will help them avoid financial difficulties in later life.”
