Sylvia Heal
Dormant Accounts Campaign
Sylvia Heal MP was pleased to hear of an initiative by the Halifax to help people locate money from old bank accounts that they may have forgotten about.
Sylvia Heal MP said: “I am told that bank accounts become dormant primarily because customers lose track of accounts over the years. Banks and building societies change ownership, documents are lost and people pass away, some customers stop using their accounts and change address without notifying their bank and therefore the bank loses track of them.”
The Halifax has employed a tracing agent to try and find customers who they have lost contact with. If you think you may have a dormant account with the Halifax, or one of the banks or building societies they have taken over in the past, you can visit their new website at www.halifaxlocateaccounts.co.uk, it has more information as well as claim forms that can be downloaded.
Sylvia Heal MP added: “I want to congratulate the Halifax for trying to contact people who have dormant bank accounts. I urge any constituents who think they may have a dormant account to go online and download a claim form.”
