Sylvia Heal welcomes moves to make benefit claims for pensioners easier

Sylvia Heal, MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis has welcomed a new package of Government reforms that will help pensioners claim the benefits that they are entitled too.

The Government are keen to make sure that pensioners are receiving the help they should be and are doing all they can to increase the take up of available benefits. 

A new package of changes to be introduced from October 2008 should make a real difference. Pensioners will be able to automatically claim three benefits in one- Pension Credit, Council Tax Benefit and Housing Benefit.

Sylvia Heal MP said: “I believe that these changes will make it easier for older people to claim the benefits that they are entitled to. The move will mean one phone call is all that is needed.

“Older people who are home owners or have savings should not be put off applying as this doesn’t prevent them from claiming Pension Credit or other benefits”.
