Local MP welcomes Government moves to stop unscrupulous bailiffs

Sylvia Heal MP has welcomed the Government’s new proposals to protect householders from unscrupulous bailiffs.
The new measures will mean more training for bailiffs to stamp out cowboy practices, set qualifications to raise standards and the creation of a powerful independent regulator.
The current regulatory structure for enforcement agents in England and Wales is currently very fragmented. Some elements within the industry are quite strictly regulated, while others are only subject to informal regulation through trade associations, and others appear to be subject to no regulation at all.
The Government aim is to create a more formalised regulatory structure, to raise standards of professionalism within the industry and give the public greater confidence in it.
Sylvia Heal MP said: “I think these new Government measures will make a real difference, helping to improve the industry and stamp out bad practices such as bullying or threatening that is sometimes used.”
