Sylvia welcomes free off-peak bus travel
Sylvia Heal, MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis has welcomed the introduction of free England-wide off-peak bus travel for over 60s.
The new measure will be introduced from April 2008 and Centro have written to Sylvia outlining the steps they are taking to ensure that as many people as possible are able to take advantage of the move. They have contacted nearly half a million people on their database of over 60s to verify their details and are keen to get in touch with anyone who is eligible but has previously chosen not to apply for a concessionary travel permit.
Sylvia Heal MP said: “I am aware there have been some problems with applicants not being able to contact Centro because of their busy phone lines. Centro have assured me that they are doing all they can to respond to customer queries and say there is plenty of time for customers to apply for their pass and no need to panic.
“The new pass will not only let over 60s travel for free on West Midlands busses, trains and trams but on local buses across England. I hope everyone eligible in Halesowen and Rowley Regis will take advantage of this excellent new help.”
Centro are asking customers who have received an application form to send it back as soon as possible.
If any existing pass holder has not yet received an application form, they should contact Centro on 0121 775 0001, alternatively they can provide their details online at www.networkwestmidlands.co.uk/nationalpass.
