Rosie Joins Reading Projects At Doncaster Central Library

Rosie Winterton, MP for Doncaster Central will be visiting the Central Library in Doncaster on Tuesday 23 August at 2.00 p.m.

Rosie will be visiting the Central Library to take a look at a number of projects that Doncaster Libraries are delivering with the help of the Yorkshire Museums, Libraries & Archives Council (YMLAC).  These include the Doncaster Reading Aids Unit, “Speaking Volumes” a project for visually impaired readers, and ‘Summer Reading Challenge for Children’ a project supported through ‘Their Reading Futures,” a national web based workforce development programme run by the Reading Agency for library staff to support their work with children, young people and families.

Rosie says  “Reading is one of the most important skills that we learn, opening up a world of information and imagination.  Libraries enable people to explore that world through a wide selection of books.

Children in particular deserve the best start in life and early exposure to books can make such a difference. I am delighted to have the opportunity to visit the Central Library in Doncaster and meet with the staff and library users who benefit from these services.”

Libraries provide children with access to imaginative and stimulating reading resources, which can have a positive impact on shaping a young person’s identity and values.  Through the expansion of the Bookstart programme announced by the Government last month every baby and young child will benefit by receiving a free set of books.

Annie Mauger, Chief Executive of YMLAC says  “We are delighted that Rosie is supporting these brilliant projects in Doncaster.  Reading is vital to children’s futures and we are proving that libraries have a key role to play through our partnership in Doncaster.”
