Rosie Congratulates Responsible Retailers

Rosie Winterton, MP for Doncaster Central has been invited to speak at the Responsible Retailer and Good Air Award Schemes presentation on Tuesday 19 September at 1.00 p.m. at The Mansion House.

Rosie has been invited to speak at the Responsible Retailer Awards and Good Air Awards ceremony where she will be joined by Fiona Castle OBE and Mayor Martin Winter to present certificates to over 80 local retailers.

Rosie says “The Responsible Retailers Award Scheme makes a real difference in combating the problems of anti social behaviour such as underage drinking, smoking and solvent abuse.

I am delighted to once again offer my support and congratulate those businesses who have signed up to the Scheme.”

Also present at the award ceremonies will be representatives from South Yorkshire Police, HM Customs and Excise and the NHS Primary Care Trust.

The Trading Standards Service in Doncaster have presented over 1,200 certificates to Doncaster businesses under the Responsible Retailer Award Scheme with more than 100,000 nominations from customers having been received during the past seven years.

The scheme is designed to educate 16-18 year olds about age restricted sales and to encourage businesses to refuse to sell age-restricted products to those under age.  Age restricted products include tobacco products, alcohol, petrol, lottery and scratch cards, fireworks and some videos.

Doncaster’s Responsible Retailer Award Scheme has been a huge success with a number of other authorities across the country introducing the scheme.

The Good Air Award (Roy Castle) Scheme, in partnership with Doncaster’s Primary Care Trust, rewards businesses for providing a smoke-free environment for their customers and staff and more than 700 certificates have been awarded to premises in Doncaster.
