Local MPs celebrate 60 years of the NHS with Patricia Hewitt
On 30 April 1946 Aneurin Bevan led the NHS Bill through the House of Commons. This meant that for the first time the people of South Yorkshire could have access to health care free at the point of need, available to all. Caroline Flint MP, Rosie Winterton MP and Patricia Hewitt recently met in Westminster to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the NHS.
Rosie Winterton MP says
“Like then, we believe that the NHS should be free for all at the point of need. We believe in investing more and reforming to meet patient needs, and this is what this government is doing.”
Caroline Flint MP adds
“We are proud of the work that the local NHS Trusts and PCTs do here in Doncaster and we are pleased that they are able to provide an excellent service to our community.”
