Rosie Opens Hexthorpe Post Office
Rosie Winterton, MP for Doncaster Central will be officially opening Hexthorpe Post Office at 70 Hexthorpe Road, Doncaster on Monday 22 August at 11.00 a.m.
Yusuf Jogee, Subpostmaster has invited Rosie to perform the official opening of the newly refurbished Hexthorpe Post Office.
A year ago customers of Hexthorpe Post Office were told that it would close and that they would have to go into Doncaster to use the Post Office.
However, Mr Jusuf Jogee took over as Subpostmaster and with the aid of grants from the Government’s Deprived Urban Post Office Fund in addition to his own private investment, Mr Jogee has turned the Post Office from an untidy run down office to one that is at the heart of the community.
Rosie says
“I am delighted to have been invited to open the newly refurbished Hexthorpe Post Office which plays an extremely valuable role in the community. With the support of government funding the subpostmaster has worked very hard to provide his customers with excellent new facilities.”
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister set up the £15million Deprived Urban Post Office Fund aimed to help prevent Post Office branches closing in the most deprived urban areas, as part of the Governments long term strategy for neighbourhood renewal. Under the fund, post offices at risk of closure were able to apply for grants up to £50,000 that could be spent on new retail facilities, shop alterations or improved security to help secure their longer term vision.
Hexthorpe Post Office has been completely gutted and refurbished with a new interior and exterior, air conditioning, disabled access and CCTV for the comfort and safety of customers. A hearing loop for customers who are hard of hearing is soon to be installed and seating has been provided by the local church.
Mr Jogee says
“I aim to ensure that the Post Office is the centre of community life and want to make any visit an enjoyable one for all my customers.”
