ROSIE VISITS LOCAL SCHOOLS TO TALK WITH YOUNG PEOPLE

Today Rosie Winterton, MP for Doncaster Central visited pupils in Year 6 at Town Field primary school and pupils at Hungerhill School. These were her first visits to schools in the area following her move from Minister for Health to Minister for Transport.
 
Town Field Primary School pupil Andrew Lindley wrote to Rosie inviting her to visit his school and talk to him and other year 6 students about her role as an MP and issues that are of concern to them, including the developing world, the global campaign for ‘Education for All’ and the environment.

Rosie says

 “I am delighted to have been invited to visit  Town Field Primary School  and to have had the opportunity to discuss with pupils the issues that are of concern to them.

Young people do take a keen interest in what is happening here in the UK and around the world. It is important that their views are listened to and taken into account when decisions are being made that may have an impact on their lives and their future.

 I was really impressed by their interest in public transport and the effect it can have on helping combat climate change. They were keen for the government to introduce more buses and safer cycling routes. This will be a big challenge for me in my new role as Transport Minister, but one I am looking forward to.”

Rosie then went on to visit Hungerhill School, where she met with students on the School Council. They shared with her their views on the town and facilities they would like to see available for them, and their ideas on transport and Youth Travel cards.
