ROSIE VISITS POTTERIC CARR

Rosie Winterton, MP for Doncaster Central will be visiting Potteric Carr Nature Reserve on Wednesday 6 September at 10.00 a.m.

Rosie has been invited to visit the Potteric Carr Nature Reserve, situated just two miles from the centre of Doncaster and one of over 80 reserves owned or leased by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.  Rosie will have a tour of the site and learn about Potteric Carr history since 1968 followed by a visit to the new extension of land to find out what the future plans are and then meet with staff, volunteers and visitors.

Rosie says

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to visit Potteric Carr Nature Reserve, an important area for the conservation of wildlife right here in the centre of Doncaster.

It is all too easy to miss what is on our own doorstep and this is an ideal place to visit for a simple walk in the countryside or to find out more about the surrounding wildlife.”

Potteric Carr is a nature reserve of meadows and lagoons designed to attract disappearing species such as the bittern, lapwing and water vole.  For the past two years Yorkshire Wildlife Trust with support of WWF and HSBC, has been developing an important extension to recreate part of the old wetland landscape that existed on the edge of Doncaster 200 years ago.  It will attract more rare wildlife and be used to demonstrate how a nature reserve, flood defence system, water treatment works, recreation area, education centre and tourist attraction can be created cost effectively and on one site.
