Doncaster MPs Team Up To Welcome Free Post for Troop Christmas Parcels
Doncaster MPs Rosie Winterton, Caroline Flint and Ed Miliband today joined together to welcome a free mail scheme so that friends and relatives of UK troops on operations can send them presents and parcels free of charge.
The scheme was announced as permanent by John Reid, Secretary of State for Defence, having being brought in last year on a temporary basis.
Rosie said:
"Receiving a package from home really lifts the spirits of our troops at Christmas, wherever they are, and I am very pleased that the Labour Government has decided to make this free Christmas postal service permanent.
Caroline added
“Packets must be sent before December 8th to take advantage of this scheme so although it is still November, it is worth thinking about starting the Christmas shopping early so you have plenty of time to send a parcel free.”
Friends and relatives are advised not to send anything which may offend local customs, such as alcohol and pork products to some places, and to bear in mind that aerosols don’t travel well and chocolate melts at 40 degrees.
