ROSIE OPENS ROUTE 2000 ANNUAL INFORMATION DAY
Rosie Winterton, MP for Doncaster Central opened the Route 2000 Annual Information Day at the Carr House Centre in Doncaster today, which was attended by around 100 delegates, parents, carers and professionals.
Route 2000 is a parent led group working together with professionals from health, education, social services and the voluntary sector to help families and carers of children and young people with special needs and disabilities.
Rosie says
“Route 2000 is a unique group that provides an important service here in Doncaster. Led by parents, the group helps to ensure that the voices of disabled children and young people are heard. The group helps to make sure that families and carers of disabled young people are aware of all the services that are available to them and the children they care for, and how to access them.
I was delighted to have been invited to open their annual information day. Parents and professionals working together can influence and improve service priorities and provision, helping to make a real difference to the lives of the children and their families.
I would encourage any carers or professionals who feel that they would like to get involved with the group to get in touch with Route 2000.”
Today’s event is on the subject ‘Understanding Behaviour’ with guest speaker Fred Furniss, Clinical Psychologist and four workshops on related topics. Today also marked the launch of an updated Route 2000 Directory of services providing information on issues that may affect children with disabilities and signposting services, information and advice that may be helpful to both families and professionals.
Holding annual Information Days is aimed at improving access to information and provides an opportunity for parents and professionals to meet. Any parents who are interested in joining the group should contact Route 2000 via the co-ordinator of the Child Health Information Centre telephone 01302 366666 ext 3878.
