DONCASTER NAMED RESPECT AREA

The Government has established Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council as one of its 40 inaugural Respect Areas, due to the area’s work on tackling anti-social behaviour, and its willingness to do more in fostering an environment of respect.

Among other benefits, this designation comes with £6 million for parenting classes in the 40 areas, including Doncaster. Local Labour MPs Rosie Winterton, Caroline Flint, Ed Miliband  and Jeff Ennis are happy to see Doncaster benefit from this Government programme.

Rosie says “Councils, police, courts and local people are the keys to more vibrant and liveable communities. Being designated a Respect area means that everyone here will be working hard to make our neighbourhoods even better places to live, showing that anti-social behaviour is not welcome in our communities.”

Caroline says “The tools provided and the Respect Handbook published by the Government will be invaluable in helping the local respect champions in moving forward. These tools are adaptable at the local level, and Doncaster will have the opportunity to adjust them to suit our communities’ needs.”

Jeff says “Doncaster residents will be able to have their say in sessions with the people implementing this policy. It is important that we make our voice heard.

Ed says: “This announcement will compliment the work the Government is doing to tackle child poverty and improve life chances, such as early years support for families through the Sure Start programme and Children’s Centres combined with financial assistance through Child Benefit, Tax Credits and help for parents to gain and sustain employment through the New Deal programmes, skills strategy and the provision of childcare.”
