Rosie Winterton, MP for Doncaster Central officially opened three Fitness Trails at Sandall Park on Sunday 29 July.

Friends of Sandall Park have worked hard to establish fitness trails at Sandall Park to give people of all abilities the chance to take part in physical activity.  Members of the group have cleared fencing and laid three trails with a total of 3 miles, with the help of a grant of £4,820 from the Lottery Fund “Awards for All’ scheme.

Rosie says

“I remember visits to ‘the boating lake’ when I was a child and I want to applaud the Friends of Sandall Park for their commitment and hard work to improve the park and make it once again a pleasant place where people from Doncaster can come to relax, play and get healthy”

Members of the public were invited to join in on a series of three walks along each of the three routes to mark the official launch.  The longest trail is 1.6 miles and the shortest is around the lake on a tarmac surface making it accessible for wheelchairs, pushchairs and people with walking difficulties.  Six rest benches have also been provided along the longer routes.

Sandra Crabtree says

“We are not trying to train Olympic athletes, these trails are ideal for people wanting to start to get fitter, or just get out into the fresh air and get some exercise, with or without a dog. On the other hand, the park is a beautiful and safe environment for casual runners to exercise away from the problems of traffic“.
