MP AND WORLD CHAMPION OPEN “DUDLEY FLETCHER ROWING SUITE”

Doncaster Rowing Club have invited Rosie Winterton, MP for Doncaster Central together with Anna Marie Phelps, Deputy Chairman of the Amateur Rowing Association also Olympic Rower and World Champion, to officially open the “Dudley Fletcher Rowing Suite” at Balby Carr Community Sports College on Friday 2 March at 10.00.00 a.m.

For some years now Balby Carr Community Sports College and Doncaster Rowing Club have been working in partnership to provide local young people with healthy activities through rowing.  As a result of this partnership and thanks to sponsorship from New Deal for Communities, the college has been able to develop a state of the art centre for indoor rowing within Balby Carr Community Sports College.   Rowing machines have been provided that use cutting edge technology to promote participation, with the aim of giving every student in the school the opportunity to learn to use the machines properly and get the maximum health benefits from their use.

Rosie says

 “ I am delighted to have been invited to open the new indoor rowing room at Balby Carr Community Sports College and pleased to hear that it has been named the ‘Dudley Fletcher Rowing Suite’ in recognition of the hard work and dedication that Dudley has shown in working with young people through rowing.

This is a wonderful facility that will provide students at the college and also the local community the opportunity to improve their health and take part in physical activity.”

The School has refirbished an old changing room with the machines to create this facility and this will be accessible to both the school and also the local community. 
 
Students take an accredited course following the National Junior Rowing Programme (NJRP) of the Amateur Rowing Association (ARA.)  

Doncaster Rowing club has trained all PE staff and some students at the College in the Dry Instructors Award of the ARA.
