Local MP welcomes project to tackle nuisance neighbours

Doncaster gets family intervention project to help in the fight against anti-social behaviour

Earlier this year, the Government established Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council as one of its 40 inaugural Respect Areas, due to the area’s work on tackling anti-social behaviour, and its willingness to do more in fostering an environment of respect.

Today the Respect Task Force will be announcing the establishment of a network of family intervention projects across the country, meeting its commitment to establish 50 projects made at the launch of the Respect Action Plan in January 2006.One of the projects is here in Doncaster.

In Doncaster there is a small number of families account for a large amount of anti-social behaviour, causing problems for themselves, their children and the community around them.  Family intervention projects provide a way forward to turn around the behaviour of these families using a potent mix of practical help, intensive support and enforcement action.

Local Labour MP, Rosie Winterton, welcomed the announcement, saying:

“Too often I meet constituents whose lives are blighted by the anti-social behaviour of a few people. I know local police and the council are working hard to target anti-social behaviour and being named a Respect Area has given us more tools to tackle it.

Today’s announcement about a family intervention project for Doncaster, will help further in the fight against nuisance neighbours.

Families are core to solving problems in our local communities. By addressing problem families, school truancy, providing parenting classes and giving young people more things to do we are doing everything possible to avert anti-social behaviour occurring in Doncaster. I am delighted that Doncaster has been chosen to benefit from this ground-breaking project, which will help make our communities better places to live in. “
