The MP for Greenwich & Woolwich, Nick Raynsford, warmly welcomed today’s announcement by the Select Committee that they were convinced of the need for a Crossrail Station at Woolwich.
Nick Raynsford MP said “The Committee has clearly recognised the very strong case for the Woolwich Station in a deprived area ripe for economic regeneration and with vital transport links into the Thames Gateway.
It was always a false economy to omit a Station at Woolwich. The station will enable South East London to benefit hugely from the Crossrail project, which is vital to the long term success of London’s economy.
I am very grateful to the many people who have supported our campaign over the past year to reinstate the Woolwich Station. Today’s announcement remedies a serious weakness in the Crossrail Bill and I look forward to working over the coming months with the London Borough of Greenwich, Crossrail and the business community to ensure both the success of the Crossrail project and a brighter economic future for Woolwich.”
