Len Duvall AM, Labour London Assembly Member for Lewisham & Greenwich and Nick Raynsford, MP for Greenwich and Woolwich welcome London Buses decision not to re-route the 422 bus away from Woolwich Road and Blackwall Lane.
In July 2005 London Buses proposed changes to the routing of 108 and 422, mainly
due to the opening of a new bus only gate allowing buses to run direct between
Westcombe Hill and the Woolwich Road roundabout. Len and Nick wrote a joint letter
to London Buses urging them to only re-route one of the buses.
Len Duvall AM said “I am pleased that London Buses have listened to our concerns and are now only proposing to re-route the 108. Keeping the 422 along its present route is great news for many constituents. It is especially good news for those attending Millennium School, as they will continue to benefit from the 422 stopping in John Harrison Way. It is so much safer for the 422 to stop outside the school, allowing children to use the new zebra crossing to reach the school.”
Nick Raynsford MP said “The original proposals had some merit, but would have left residents between the A102M and Blackwall Lane with no direct link to the school and health centre on the Peninsula. Those travelling from Blackwall Lane would have been left relying purely on the 188 bus – which is less frequent and notoriously subject to delay. The new arrangements will bring the benefit of a faster 108 service and a new 129 service to North Greenwich while preserving the existing 422 route. This gives us the best of both worlds.”
