Mike Hall MP
DLA and people with severe sight loss
Disability Living Allowance has gone a long way to help people who are disabled to have a decent quality of life.
Mike Hall MP said:-
“I was shocked to learn that people who have severe sight loss are only entitled to the lower rate mobility component of DLA which is £17.10 per week.
“I firmly believe that suffering from severe sight loss is a major disability and those who have this condition should be entitled to the higher rate of £45.00.
“Severe sight loss profoundly changes people’s lives. They face tremendous difficulties on a day to day basis. They need extra help to do the things able bodied and sighted people take for granted. They face difficulties in getting out and about on a day to day basis, their general health can be affected; they face real difficulties in employment opportunities, their choices and independence are threatened.
“I firmly believe that people who have severe sight loss should be entitled to the same financial support as other categories of disability like those who are wheelchair users.
“I fully support the RNIB Campaign to get the higher mobility rate of DLA extended to people who have severe sight loss. I have asked the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions to make this provision.”
