WILL MAX THE MUTT MAKE IT AS CANINE “FIRST AMONG EQUALS?”

Marvellous Max, a one year old rescue crossbreed belonging to Mike Hall MP (Lab, Weaver Vale), will be hoping for a Labour landslide victory when he enters the Westminster Dog of the Year competition on 25th October.

Proud owner Mike explains, “Max is a rescue dog, having been abandoned twice already in his short life.  When we first got him he was undernourished and very nervous, and was terrified of the lawnmower.  Thankfully, he is now a very confident, sociable dog and a very loving pet.  He adores football, swimming and rolling in mud!  I can also say, with all modesty, that he is an extremely good-looking dog!”

The Westminster Dog of The Year competition, organised by Dogs Trust and the Kennel Club, aims to highlight the unique relationship between man and dog, while promoting responsible dog ownership.  The competition is open to all parliamentarians’ pooches, regardless of breed, creed or pawlitical persuasion.

With not a spin doctor or focus group in sight, the Westminster Dog of the Year competition also provides the nation with the opportunity to see their MP or peer as a real human being – poop scoop bag and all.  Judges include Eric Martlew MP (owner of last year’s winner, Tag) plus Clarissa Baldwin (CEO Dogs Trust) and Caroline Kisko (Secretary, the Kennel Club.)

The final takes place at 10.30am on Thursday 25th October at Victoria Tower Gardens, next to the House of Lords.  There will an assortment of canine competitors from both Houses, and for the second year dogs belonging to Westminster correspondents have been invited to enter the fray!
