Dogs Trust and The Kennel Club are proud to announce the winner of the Westminster Dog of the Year 2007 competition: 

1.  Max, owned by Mike Hall MP

2.  Myrtle, owned by Gabriel Milland, Daily Express

3.  Michael, owned by David Amess MP

Best Debutant is Max

Best Returning Winner is Michael

Best Political Journalist’s dog is Myrtle

The canine candidates were judged on their companionship, good deeds and overall charm – with no attention given to their age, dress sense or choice of partner.

Winning dog, Max commented “woof woof.” 

His owner, Michael Hall MP, commented: “I’m absolutely delighted that Max has won the Westminster Dog of The Year show; he is a rescue crossbreed from Cheshire Dogs Home and so I think he’s done really well to win today. The serious message is all about responsible dog ownership and I’m very proud that Max has played his part”.

This year two special awards were given out:

• Lulu the Newfoundland and her owner Roger Gale MP were given a special award for the great fundraising that they do for various charities.
• Dudley the Jack Russell crossbreed and his owner Sarah Mc Carthy- Fry MP were given an award for bravery as Dudley was recently attacked by another dog but continues to have great spirit and be a wonderful pet.
