Christmas greetings from Mike Hall

Christmas is fast approaching and there is not a lot of time left for sending out cards, buying presents and stocking up food and drink for the festive season.

I have already attended a carol concert for the Russett Special School for seriously disabled children. The children put on a great service with singing and a nativity scene.

The message of Christmas came through very strongly. A humble family in need of food and shelter finding support in a strange town far from home.

Today we celebrate Christmas with our families and friends by giving and receiving gifts. We join in the festivities and enjoy ourselves. It’s a magical time of year for everyone.

Family birthdays also make Christmas special. My wife Lesley, my Brother Tez and brother-in-law Darren all celebrate their birthdays over the festive period. This brings with it the added challenge of what to buy for presents.

Another thing making Christmas special for me is being able to take our dog Max out for long refreshing walks. As the winner of the Westminster Dog Show he goes to next years Crufts dog show as a guest.

We now have to work on getting him ready for his appearance.

Christmas is also a time of year to reflect. We should always consider others who are less fortunate than we are and give generously to help those in need.

We still have members of our armed forces on active service abroad. Many will not be able to come home this Christmas and be with their families and friends. They deserve our deep and sincere thanks for the excellent job they are doing.

I wish all the readers of the Northwich Chronicle a merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous and peaceful new year.
