MP MIKE HALL VISITS NEW LOOK ANDERTON EXHIBITION

Weaver Vale MP Mike Hall has paid a visit to the all new Anderton Boat Lift exhibition – and heard how group bookings to Cheshire’s premier working heritage monument are already up 20 per cent on last year.

Mr Hall was the guest of Wales & Border Counties General Manager Julie Sharman, who escorted him around the brand new display, which focuses on the lives of those who designed, built and worked around the mighty structure.

Mr Hall saw first hand how the display has been specifically commissioned to engage with audiences of all ages and features a complimentary blending of strong audio visual features.

And he praised the developments at the major visitor attraction since it re-opened in 2002.

“The boat lift’s popular history is reflected in the new exhibition, which focuses on the human endeavour behind its construction and operation,” said Mr Hall.

General Manager Julie Sharman said the fully accessible centre is now open seven days a week, between 10.00am – 5.00pm including Bank Holidays until October, reflecting its increasing popularity and strategic role in Cheshire’s booming tourism business.

“We are working with partners to place our ‘Cathedral of Canals’ at the centre of a stunning long distance country walk, the Weaver Way,” said Ms Sharman.

When completed, the walk will stretch 119 kilometres from Frodsham in the north to Audlem in the south and connect six towns, 11 villages and natural amenities such as Marbury Country Park and Anderton Nature Reserve.

Leaflets are available at all major tourism offices and other outlets. Details of opening times and events can be obtained by calling 01606 786777 and by visiting www.andertonboatlift.co.uk
