Dormant Accounts Campaign

Mike Hall MP was pleased to hear of the initiative by the Halifax to help people locate money from old bank accounts that they may have forgotten about.

Mike Hall MP said:-

“In Weaver Vale 226 dormant accounts have been identified. In total there is £190,547 in these accounts waiting to be claimed by the owners of the accounts.

“I am told that bank accounts become dormant primarily because customers lose track of accounts over the years. As banks and building societies change ownership, passbooks are lost or relatives pass away, some customers stop using their accounts and change address without notifying their bank and the bank loses track of them.

“The Halifax has employed a tracing agent to try and seek out customers with whom contact has been lost. Customers who think they may have a dormant account with the Halifax, or one of the societies they have taken over in the past, can go to a new website for more information and to download claim forms, www.halifaxlocateaccounts.co.uk.

“The Halifax are to be congratulated for trying to contact people in Weaver Vale who have dormant bank accounts. I urge any constituents who may have a dormant account to go online and download the claim form. After all, the £190,547 belongs to the 226 people who have let their accounts go dormant. If you think you are one of them, you are entitled to make a claim”.
