Mike Hall MP Supports Campaign by Evacuees Reunion Association
Mike Hall, MP for Weaver Vale, is giving his backing to a call by the Evacuees Reunion Association for recognition of their contribution to the war effort.
Mike says:-
“I have taken an interest in this cause after being contacted by one of my constituents.
He told me that he was evacuated to Wales from Liverpool, and was fostered from the age of 8 to 13.Although he was not physically or mentally abused he did suffer from benign neglect. He only saw his parents occasionally and his relationship with them suffered because he spent so much time away from them.
“His education also suffered because he attended a small village school in Wales where there were only two teachers, and the primary language was Welsh.
“I understand that the older evacuees played their part by helping on farms, working on campaigns to recycle material, and raising funds for the war effort.
“Following on from rightly giving recognition to those who served in the Women’s Land Army, the Women’s Forestry Service and the Bevin Boys, I hope that consideration will now be given to recognising the contribution and personal sacrifice of the World War 11 evacuees.”
